Steve Crowther

Managing Director

Steve founded Crowther Chartered Accountants in 1995. His career in accountancy has spanned four decades, but he wouldn’t have you believe he was that old! Steve’s experience in all aspects of accountancy and business means that his advice and guidance is invaluable to our clients.

Steve’s philosophy is “You only get out of life what you put in.” And we can see that through the commitment and hard work he puts in with his clients and his staff. The business has gone from strength to strength under his leadership, and his drive and dedication keep the practice moving forward.

Having lead his own accountancy practice for many years, Steve is well-placed to understand the highs and lows of running a business. He’s not just there to crunch numbers!

Michelle Crowther

Head of Marketing

Michelle is in charge of the Marketing side of things here at Crowther Chartered Accountants. Although she’s not formally trained in accounting, her experience with the business over many years has meant she’s fully got to grips with the accounting services that we offer to our clients. She makes sure that she’s always enthusiastic and ready to meet new (and existing) clients.

We asked the rest of the team to describe Michelle and the words that came up repeatedly were; enthusiastic, approachable, friendly. Many of her colleagues described her as “always smiling” and Practice Manager Steph Moore commented, “Michelle brings great energy to the office and is passionate about moving the business forward”.

Despite working alongside husband Steve, when asked what three things she would take to a desert island, she replied, “George Clooney, photographs and a phone”. Michelle is always on the look-out for exciting new challenges and loves to go out her comfort zone. We asked her what the title of her autobiography would be, and she replied, “Life is an adventure”. Good answer Michelle!

Michelle is heavily involved in local networking event groups, including Yorkie Talkie and Around Town. She has run her own businesses in the past and now focusses her energy on helping growing businesses in the Huddersfield area.

Simon Mayoh

David Busfield

Business Development Manager

David joined the Crowther team in August 2017 as a Business Development Manager. His main role is to develop new relationships with clients through networking events and to nurture existing client relationships.

David has a wealth of experience within the financial services industry and brings with him a considerable number of professional contacts. He has spent over 40 years working for HSBC group in commercial and corporate banking, and has helped many local businesses across the Yorkshire region.

We asked David what he liked best about working at Crowther, and he told us that he “wanted to be part of a dynamic and highly professional firm”. He also mentioned the great clients, working environment and the team spirit here at Crowther Chartered Accountants.

David is originally from Huddersfield and has spent most of his working life helping businesses in West Yorkshire. He now lives with his wife Sally on the outskirts of Huddersfield, where they enjoy walking in rolling hills and beautiful countryside. In his spare time, David likes to play tennis and squash, and enjoys watching sport in general.

We asked David who he would like to meet (dead or alive) and he replied “Winston Churchill, as he was one of the world’s greatest politicians!”

Caroline Delee

Senior Bookkeeper

Caroline has been part of the bookkeeping team since 2009. She completed her AAT Level 4 while working at Crowther Chartered Accountants. Although Caroline is originally from Huddersfield, she went to London to train as a ballet dancer before starting work in bookkeeping!

She spends much time working with clients at their own premises, so she travels most of West Yorkshire during the week! Caroline is hardworking and has a lot of experience in bookkeeping; she can usually spot the solution to a problem within a few seconds of looking at a spreadsheet!

Caroline maintains excellent relationships with all her clients and is always up for a laugh with her team. Her colleagues described her as “bubbly” and “chatty,” and Head of Marketing Michelle said Caroline “lives life to the full.” We asked Caroline about the first music concert she attended, and she replied, “S Club 7 Juniors.” She is definitely a child of the 90s!

James Taylor

Accounts Manager

James came to Crowther already part-qualified. He finished his AAT qualifications after joining Crowther in 2016. Crowther is delighted that James has recently gained his ACA qualification.

James is part of the accounts team, where he manages a portfolio of clients, prepares year-end accounts and tax computations, assists with audits and offers support to clients.

James is a Huddersfield Town season ticket holder, like most of the team at Crowther! He likes going to the gym and playing 5-a-side with his mates in his spare time. J

James was asked what he would take to a desert island, and he replied, “an iPod, a football and a Huddersfield Town top.”

Tommy Devitt

Accounts Apprentice

Tommy started working at Crowther in 2020 as an accounts apprentice after completing his A Levels at Greenhead college. He is working towards his AAT qualifications. Tommy said, ‘I enjoy being able to study for my AAT qualifications whilst gaining valuable experience working. It allows me to be able to transfer my knowledge both practically and academically.’ Tommy’s current role is to carry out bookkeeping and basic accounts. He has a clear goal which is to become a Chartered Accountant.

When asked, since starting at Crowther, what does he like the most? He replied, ‘The most enjoyable part since I have been working at Crowther is the team involved in delivering the service. They welcomed me into the team and integrated me into work and social activities. They are always happy to help me with tasks that I am struggling with. Everyone here is really friendly and welcoming. ‘

Tommy’s hobbies are sports; Crowther has yet another Huddersfield Town fan and loves to support his team by watching them play. He also likes nothing more than playing a good round of golf or kicking a football with his mates. If he was given one wish, he said, ‘It would be to watch the Ryder Cup in America or Town to win the premier league.’

When asked which of his possessions he could not live without, he said, ‘it’s got to be my phone as it allows me to catch up on everything interesting that has happened in the news as well as be in contact with my mate to organise any activities or nights out.’

Caroline Pinder

Trainee Chartered Accountant

Caroline is no longer the baby of the team at Crowther Chartered Accountants. She joined the team after college. We are proud to say Caroline is a qualified AAT accountant and is studying for her Chartered Accountants qualification.

Caroline is outgoing and confident and is not afraid to voice her opinions and ideas. Her positive outlook is infectious. She is the best customer at the tuck shop and has a chocolate bar or sweets daily! Luckily, the youth is still on her side, and she swims to keep fit!

When asked about Caroline, her workmates described her as “one of a kind” and “lively and outgoing”. She’s fun on a night out and always gets involved in staff events.

We asked Caroline what she would take to a desert island, and her response was, “A sun lounger, Rubik’s Cube and a duvet.” When pressed, she admitted she wasn’t very good at doing a Rubik’s Cube, but she’d have time to perfect it on her desert island!

Ellie Walsh

Trainee Accountant

Ellie started with Crowther in the summer of 2019. She came straight from school, taking on the administration and Payroll apprentice roles. Ellis said, ‘One of the best things about working at Crowther is the support I get.’ Ellie has progressed to the accounts team. Crowther is delighted that Ellie is working towards completing the AAT level three qualification.

Ellie is a friendly, bubbly person. In her own words, she said, ‘You will hear me coming before you see me.’ She is an animal lover. For as long as she can remember, she has had many pets. What makes Ellie happy? A Greggs butty or pasty, chocolate, cheese, and listening to music. Her favourite song is by Akon – Sorry, Blame Me – A great combo….

Ellie loves to watch a good TV series, try new restaurants, and spend time with her friends and family. She loves to travel and is inspired by watching her favourite series, Hawaii 5 0. Honolulu in Hawaii is definitely at the top of her bucket list. Another of her aspirations is to embark on a solo trip/adventure at least once in her lifetime.

Jacci Bryson

Jacci Joined Crowther in 2021, taking on the role of Personal Tax manager. She quickly developed her role, creating and organising a structure that works for her and her team. Throughout her career, Jacci has worked for HM Revenue and Customs for several years. Before working at Crowther, Jacci held the role of Personal Tax Manager within the accountancy sector. When asked what she liked the most about working at Crowther, she said ‘The Team’.

Jacci loves to socialise and spend quality time with her family and friends when she is not at work. She also has two dogs that love to spend time outdoors, so getting out and about with them is certainly not a chore, as she loves walking. Jacci also has a keen interest in interior design and decorating.

When Jacci was asked which of her possessions she could not live without, she replied, ‘Friendship’.

Chloe Leeming

Payroll Assistant and Accountant

Chloe has been working at Crowther Chartered Accountants since Summer 2016. Over the years, she has played an integral part in the payroll department. Crowther is delighted that she has gained her ATA qualification. Chloe has a great knowledge and understanding of payroll, pensions, and tax obligations.

Chloe loves a challenge; she walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society. Her two dogs keep Chloe busy on weekends by walking them for miles.

She likes to get involved with social events and never misses a night out!

Chloe’s colleagues described her as “happy to help” and “gets stuck in”. Chloe will use her common sense even if she’s unsure, and usually, things come out right in the end!

Steph Moore

Practice Manager

Steph has been working at Crowther Chartered Accountants since 2010. Before this, she qualified as a Financial Advisor, achieving her Financial Planning Certificates Levels 1, 2 & 3. When she started working at Crowther Chartered Accountants, I’m not sure she knew what she was letting herself in for; she’s now the go-to woman for just about anything! Around the office she can be seen chatting to clients, looking after new starters, and organising staff nights out!

Steph has an excellent rapport with clients, and seems to remember even the smallest of details, which helps her to come across as friendly and personable; traits that are highly valued within the team at Crowther Chartered Accountants. Her colleagues described her as “very hard working,” and also “great fun on a night out!”

We asked Steph for a fun fact about herself and she told us that her “Claim to fame” was staying in the same hotel as Ashley Peacock from Coronation Street! This was in Cancun, Mexico when she was sipping cocktails (one of Steph’s favourite activities) on the beach!

Steph is super family-orientated and spends her weekends entertaining her young son. When we asked what she would take with her to a desert island, he was on the list, along with chocolate and a mobile phone, although no mention of husband Paul!

Kristian Lee

Senior Accounts Manager

Kristian is ACA qualified.  He has been with Crowther Chartered Accountants since he finished at Greenhead College in 2013. Kristian progressed quickly through his qualifications, thanks to much hard work!

Kristien loves sports; his competitive nature makes him a great choice for your team, especially when playing tennis. His other passion is watching Huddersfield Town AFC at the weekends.

When colleagues were asked to describe him, there were a few comments about his singing around the office. Office Manager Steph said, “he shouldn’t leave accountancy to pursue singing as a career!” We hope that’s because you’re highly valued as an accountant Kristian!

When asked what he would take with him to a desert island, Kristian wasn’t about to be fooled by the question, so he replied, “A boat, a map and a compass.” You’ll be back to civilisation in no time then!

Nell Auty

Nell joined the Crowther accounts team in 2023. She is currently pursuing her ACA qualification. Her goal is to complete her studies by the end of 2024.

Nell is an enthusiastic, bubbly member of Crowther. When asked to give three words to describe herself, she said, ‘Caring, funny and very chatty’. Nell's daily habits are revising, exercising, meeting friends, seeing her family, cooking and watching TV.

When not working, she is happiest when eating out, socialising with friends, baking, and eating sweet treats. Oh, and she loves the occasional Strawberry Daquiri. Apparently, she has a hidden talent for baking. Don’t forget to bake enough to go around the office next time, Nell.

Jess Moody

Trainee Chartered Accountant

Jess started with Crowther in the autumn of 2023, joining the accounts department as a trainee. She recently started studying for her ACA qualifications. When asked what she considers her best job skills to be, she said she thought communication and working as part of a team were pretty high on the list. Jess also said, ‘I’d probably say my favourite thing about working at Crowther is working alongside the rest of the accounts team, as everyone is really helpful.’

Jess’s colleagues describe her as a friendly, bubbly, and helpful individual, a true asset to the team. Intriguingly, she has chosen accountancy as her profession, considering her childhood ambition was to become a window cleaner.

When asked what her typical day looks like, she said, ‘Work, walking my dog, cook dinner and watch TV; her preferred TV programs are murder mysteries and documentaries about murderers. Jess is at her happiest, going out for a meal with friends or family and going to the cinema. She aspires to buy a house and visit as many countries as possible. They are not bad goals at all, and undoubtedly, they will include one or two of the tipple she loves – Malibu and Coke.

What does your job involve day-to-day?
Processing information for VAT returns and completing the VAT return file. Working through year end accounts. Answering the phone to clients to put them through to whoever is best for them to speak to.

Spending time with family and having a glass of wine with my friends. I also like going for walks with my cousin and her dog as I don’t have my own dog (but would love to have one!)

Head of Security

Archie is our friendly head of security, who regularly patrols the office, ensuring he cleans up any scraps dropped along the way. He is always ready to greet visitors with enthusiasm. One of his daily tasks involves a visit to each team member. This is to give each of them a nudge or ask for some attention to perk them up. He even allows Ellie to walk with him to help her achieve her daily steps.
