Crowthers Chartered Accountants was delighted to reach the finals of the Examiner Live Business Awards.
Nominated in the Community Award category, the Huddersfield-based team attended a glittering awards do hosted by BBC Look North presenter, Harry Gration.
Organised by the Huddersfield Examiner, the awards showcase talent from businesses across Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees and Calderdale area. Michelle Crowther, Steve Crowther and David Busfield went to the black-tie event which was held at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday 7 November 2019.
Michelle said: “We are thrilled to have been nominated. It is such an honour. We were in a category with other strong nominees – including the Bling Fling Ladies Lunch for who I am a committee member.
“We have a strong track CSR record at Crowther’s and our Yorkshire values of fairness, integrity and respect are incredibly important to the firm. We always make sure all business operations are built around these ethics. We’ve always been passionate about supporting and encouraging our employees in their fundraising efforts for the local community.”
Marketing and business development director, Michelle, alongside four of Crowther’s clients, climbed Kilimanjaro in January 2019 to raise £14,614 for Variety, a children’s charity supporting disadvantaged young people across the UK.
Crowther Accountants was established in 1995 by Managing Director, Steve Crowther and employee numbers have grown consistently over the last 24 years; having started with just one employee, the team now comprises 20 local professionals. Supporting charities and the local community is hugely important to the firm with active involvement in multiple local and global charities.
The firm is well known in the local community and arranges quarterly networking events under the name, Around Town. The events take place at different business premises around Huddersfield to showcase the diverse range of organisations that exist in the area and the fantastic contribution they make to the local economy.
The practice supports Kirklees and Calderdale’s Charity Lunch (KACCL) for young people and has raised a combined £32,000. It also supports The Bling Fling, an event to raise funds for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice which raised £22K this year. In April 2019, Crowther partnered with Global Business Giving Initiative (B1G1) to fund charitable projects around the world.
Every month, the accountants select one of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals to support. From April, they adopted a new policy whereby every time a new client comes on board, a staff member celebrates a birthday or a work anniversary, Crowther donates to fighting worthy causes such as poverty, hunger, poor education, climate change and many others.
Michelle added: “I’m so proud of the work we do in the community. Long may it continue.”
